Support Casper
The Support Casper campaign is part of the Surviving with Pancreatic Cancer Foundation. The campaign started in September 2015 and the Foundation was established a few months later. The founders are all friends or family of people who have died from pancreatic cancer. There is shockingly little attention paid to pancreatic cancer. Presumably because most people die from it so quickly that there is no time or space to set up campaigns or draw attention to it.
Support Casper owes its name to Prof. Dr. Casper van Eijck, surgeon and professor of pancreatic cancer at Erasmus MC for almost 30 years. In recent years, he saw no substantial other research and no improvement for patients. It was time, in Casper’s own words, “to go off the beaten path.”
To this end, Van Eijck put together a multidisciplinary team including virologists, molecular biologists and neurosurgeons from Erasmus MC, Leiden University Medical Center, UMC Utrecht and Amsterdam UMC. They conduct pioneering clinical scientific research into the possibilities of viroimmunotherapy and work on methods, which no longer focus on the disease, but on the patient’s strength and ability to use their own body against the malignant tumor.
Casper van Eijck is not only a renowned surgeon and researcher in the field of pancreatic cancer, he is also tremendously committed to his patients who come from home and abroad. In addition, Casper van Eijck was associated with soccer club Feyenoord as a club doctor.
